"Auf den Spuren von Arthur und Eugenie Samuel” is the title of our German website, decided early in its development.
“Searching for Traces of Arthur and Eugenie Samuel” is the title of the English version, chosen to better convey the original intent than a literal translation. It reflects the idea that anyone who wishes to understand life in earlier times, the history of their family, the evolution of customs and traditions, or changes in political systems, must undertake a search. For documents, events, memories, stories, facts and feelings. In other words, for traces - essentially clues. Two of the authors had the opportunity of getting to know Arthur Samuel personally during their childhood in Cadenberge. The third in the group is his great-nephew. Embarking together on this search for traces later in life is indeed a gift. We hope our gratitude shines through in the texts, the photographs, and the documents presented here.
